The Katsina State Hisbah Board on Thursday destroyed more than 120 cartons of confiscated alcoholic beverages in Funtua as part of its continuing enforcement campaign against items classified as contrary to Islamic principles.
The operation was led by the Commander of the Hisbah Board in Dandume Local Government Area, D.C. Bashir Lawal Balarabe, with officials from the Funtua zone joining the exercise. The State Commander-General, Sheikh Malam Aminu Usman (Abu-Ammar), PhD, was also in attendance to oversee the destruction.
According to officials, the alcohol was seized during routine patrols aimed at discouraging the consumption, distribution and movement of intoxicants prohibited under Islamic law. They said the crackdown is part of broader efforts to tackle growing moral concerns within the state.
Islamic scholars at the event restated the faith’s prohibition of alcohol and cautioned against its harmful effects on individuals and the wider community.
Speaking after the exercise, the Commander-General said the board has intensified its fight against alcohol-related activities following the re-establishment of the Hisbah under Governor Dikko Radda.
He praised the governor for reinforcing the institution and supporting its mission to address moral and social issues across the state.
Senior Hisbah officers from the Funtua zone and Islamic scholars from different parts of the region were present at the event.
