Nigerian singer Skales has weighed in on the differences in earning potential between careers in football and the music industry.
During an appearance on the Groovymono podcast, he said football offers a steadier source of income, pointing out that even players who are not global stars can earn consistently as long as they remain signed to a team.
He contrasted this with the music business, which he described as highly uncertain, explaining that success can fluctuate rapidly, with artists experiencing highs at one point and setbacks at another.
Skales also praised musicians who have sustained their relevance over time, acknowledging the effort required to maintain long-term success in such an unpredictable industry.
“Omo na football money o,” he declared, adding, “You can just be a regular guy… they no dey bench you, and you go dey make money.”
“You can be up today, you can be down tomorrow, you just have to pray to God,” he said, adding that sustained relevance in the Nigerian music scene felt less like a product of hard work and more like “some divine thing”, he continued.
“You can imagine things that we don’t know about, that’s a different kind of money, man,” he added
