The World Health Organisation (WHO) has appointed Dr Mrs Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala as a Special Envoy for Access to COVID-19 tools (ACT) Accelerator.

Dr Tedros Ghebreyesus, the Director-General of WHO, announced the appointment during the launch of ACT Accelerator in Geneva, saying that she’s been working with Sir Andrew Witty, a British Business Executive as Special Envoys.

“I would especially like to thank Sir Andrew Witty and Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala for agreeing to act as Special Envoys for the ACT Accelerator,” Ghebreyesus said in his remarks during a webinar.

Act is an international collaboration aimed at accelerating the development, production, and equitable distribution of COVID-19 drugs, tests kits and hopefully vaccines around the world.

Okonjo-Iweala was recently appointed a member of the South Africa Economic Advisory Council which advises the Government of South Africa on development and implementation of economic policies.

She was also few weeks ago appointed member of the International Monetary Fund External Advisory Group.
