A man in Pakistan has been charged with murder after allegedly killing the administrator of a community WhatsApp group who removed him from the chat, police confirmed on Saturday.

The incident occurred on Thursday evening in Peshawar, the capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, a region known for its history of sectarian violence.

According to police records and a statement from the victim’s family, the suspect, identified only as Ashfaq, allegedly shot and killed Mushtaq Ahmed after being removed from the messaging group.

“Mushtaq had taken Ashfaq out of the WhatsApp group following an argument,” the victim’s brother stated.

He explained that both men had initially agreed to meet in an attempt to settle their differences.

However, instead of a peaceful resolution, Ashfaq allegedly arrived armed and opened fire.

“The accused was furious after being removed from the WhatsApp group,” the statement added.

Authorities have since charged Ashfaq with murder, with investigations still ongoing.

Police officials have pointed to factors such as the easy availability of firearms, long-standing tribal customs, and enforcement challenges as contributors to such violent incidents.
