WHAT IS A 100-YEAR-OLD MAN STILL DOING THERE? Nigerians react to Pa Egbunuche birthday celebration in Enugu Maximum Prison

Some Nigerians have condemned the continued stay of a 100-year-old man, Pa Celestine Egbunuche, inside the Enugu Maximum Prison.

The centenarian dubbed Nigeria’s oldest prisoner celebrated his 100th year birthday on August 4, 2018.

Some Nigerians on Twitter opined that Pa Egbunuche should be set free because of his age and health. Some also called on the State government and the Presidency to intervene and facilitate his release.

However, one Twitter user, identified as @CHINAYDHU said: “May be if he is a free man he would have been a dead bone by now.. baba, keep staying there, it suite you mehn.. if them release am the next thing wey go hear be sey e don die.”

Meanwhile, some Twitter users prayed for the centenarian and decreed that he would be free soon.

The Imo State indigene was sentenced to death along with his son, Paul, and another relation, now 87 after a man died in a scuffle over a piece of land.

The convicts have already spent over 17 years in the prison. However, an NGO, Global Society for Anti-corruption is pushing for the centenarian’s release.
