It over a day since the #SilhoutteChallenge hit Twitter and it has taken the top trend on the bed app as Tweeps can’t seem to get enough of the challenge.

With tweets and retweets relating to the #SilhoutteChallenge, the topic remains number one in Nigeria with over 181K Tweets at the time of this report, extending to other places like the USA and Canada.

So what exactly is the #SilhoutteChallenge and why are people talking about it on Twitter?

So the challenge is a dance challenge (mostly for ladies, although some men have jumped on it) to a 1987 son titled ‘Put Your Head On My Shoulder’ by Paul Anka and

But here’s it the weird part, it is actually not about the song but the dance routine which focuses on stripping naked when you get to the line “put your hands on my should..” as it transitions from Anka’s song to Doja Cats’ 2019 song, ‘Streets’.

And of course, when it gets to the transition, the video transitions from the original recording to a silhouette (hence the #SilhoutteChallenge) as the dance dances naked under red lights.

Reports revealed that red filter can actually be tampered with to reveal a clearer video, giving more access to what the red light might be blurring.

Did You Know? TikTok users can make use of the filter known as “vin rouge” to create their #SilhoutteChallenge

How users join the #SilhoutteChallenge:

While there are different ways you can join the challenge, TikTok user @nurseswilling explained the “vin rouge” filter process amongst others on the app.

According to a video tutorial posted on Twitter with the app,  you can:

  • Applying the filter,
  • Position your phone camera to face the closest doorway.
  • turn off all of the lights in the room except for the light source you choose to use outside of the doorway.
  • and BOOM: the lighting trick automatically creates a silhouette effect everything within the camera range

Meanwhile, taking a snoop through some of the videos, we discovered that one can actually see some non-silhouette footages of the nude dancers and one can’t but wonder if they are actually using the right shade of red light.

However, here are some #SilhoutteChallenge videos that have gathered engagements since the challenge which actually started on TikTok in the summer of 2020 hit the bird app, though some people do not subscribe to the challenge.
