West Ham beat Arsenal 3-1, book EFL Cup quarter-finals spot

Declan Rice had a nightmare return to the London Stadium as West Ham cruised to a 3-1 victory over Arsenal to reach the EFL Cup quarter-finals.

Rice, who was West Ham’s captain last season when they won the UEFA Europa Conference League, came off the bench in the second half but was unable to help his new side avoid defeat.

West Ham failed to have a shot in the first half but took the lead thanks to Ben White’s own goal from a Jarrod Bowen corner.

Arsenal dominated possession but struggled to create clear-cut chances, and West Ham doubled their lead on 50 minutes through Mohammed Kudus.

Bowen then sealed the victory with a deflected strike on the hour mark. Arsenal grabbed a consolation goal through substitute Martin Odegaard in stoppage time, but it was too late to save the game.

Mikel Arteta will be hoping for a much-improved performance from his side when they travel to Newcastle for a Premier League match on Saturday. West Ham are away to Brentford.
