Nollywood actor Kunle Remi has ignited a fierce online debate with a scathing review of Nigeria’s presentation during American streamer iShowSpeed’s recent visit.

Following the YouTuber’s tour across Africa, Remi stated that Nigeria ranked at the bottom of his personal list. In a strongly-worded social media post, he criticized the lack of cultural substance displayed in Lagos.

“After watching IShowSpeed’s journey so far, Nigeria is the worst on my own list,” Remi wrote. “We just really stripped Lagos naked… no be say anything dey under the clothes. Before sha.”

He lamented a perceived loss of national identity, adding, “Seems like we have lost the essence of culture. Our truth! All we have is fake drinks, club and beggy beggy skills.”

His comments reference the chaotic scenes that unfolded during iShowSpeed’s visit to Lagos on January 21. The streamer’s movement attracted massive, unruly crowds, with people chasing his convoy, shouting for money, and recording on phones. The situation escalated to the point where his security team advised him to briefly stop his livestream and take shelter in a shop for safety.

The visit also featured awkward encounters with local content creators. Popular streamer Habeeb Hamzat (Peller) made repeated attempts to get iShowSpeed’s attention, including trying to climb his vehicle and later riding a horse through traffic, pleading, “Please I’m a streamer… I have suffered because of you.” iShowSpeed did not engage with him, sparking further online discussion.

The streamer also had a brief exchange with skit maker Egungun of Lagos. The chaotic reception has led many Nigerians online to criticize the event as an embarrassment, echoing Kunle Remi’s sentiments about the portrayal of the city and its culture.
