The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Mr. Ola Olukoyede, has outlined his commitment to intensify the fight against corruption while ensuring the well-being of the agency’s staff.
In a meeting with members of the Ilorin Zonal Command, Olukoyede emphasized a shift in the approach to anti-graft operations to foster economic growth.
Olukoyede conveyed the need to redefine the EFCC’s mandate to positively impact the country’s economy.
He stressed the discontinuation of practices that hinder businesses through unwarranted Post No Debit orders.
Instead, the focus will be on distinguishing between proceeds of crime and legitimate funds, utilizing the EFCC’s authority to generate wealth and job opportunities.
“We must be able to separate proceeds of crime from legitimate funds and use the instrumentality of our mandate to create wealth and jobs for people,” Olukoyede affirmed.
Furthermore, the EFCC Chairman expressed the commitment to establishing an environment conducive to business growth, promoting sustainable economic development.
Addressing staff welfare, Olukoyede assured that ongoing discussions with the government aimed to secure necessary support.
He reiterated the agency’s past achievements in prioritizing staff well-being and affirmed the intention to replicate such efforts.
“We have done it before, and we are going to do it again,” Olukoyede emphasized.
While urging EFCC officers to uphold integrity and avoid compromising their duties, he underscored the sacred duty of making Nigeria free from corruption and crimes.
“We owe our nation the sacred duty of making this country free of corruption and crimes,” he added.
Olukoyede encouraged collaborative efforts among staff members, emphasizing the shared rights and privileges outlined in Section 8 (5) of the EFCC Establishment Act, 2004.
