The Department of State Services (DSS) has said it knows nothing about the alleged disappearance of the Spiritual Director of Adoration Ministries Enugu, Father Ejike Mbaka.
WUZUPNIGERIA reports that there were protests in Enugu on Wednesday afternoon after reports filtered in that the fiery clergyman had not been seen since last week’s Tuesday.
The protesters, mainly youths, alleged that Mbaka, who recently called for the resignation or impeachment of the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd) over worsening insecurity, was either picked up by security operatives or gunmen.
The youths thus gave the Federal Government a 48-hour ultimatum to produce Mbaka.
Reacting, DSS spokesman, Dr Peter Afunanya, denied the cleric was not in its custody.
He said, “This is not true. Fr Mbaka was not picked up by the DSS. Rev Fr Mbaka is not with the DSS. The DSS did not pick him up, please.”
Rev. Fr. Anthony Godonu, Director of Social Communications for the Catholic Archdiocese, told WUZUPNIGERIA in a telephone call that he was yet to confirm the supposed disappearance of the cleric.
Mbaka, who supported the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), during the 2015 and 2019 elections recently made a U-turn, asking Buhari to resign or be impeached for not doing enough to tackle widespread insecurity in the country.
But the Presidency opened a can of worms thereafter, saying Mbaka has suddenly become a critic because Buhari refused to offer contracts to his allies.
Reacting to the accusation, Mbaka admitted that he led three security experts to the President to proffer solutions to the insecurity ravaging the country even as he said that those people were not known to him
On Wednesday, the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide (OYC) through its President-General of OYC, Mazi Okwu Nnabuike, in a statement alleged that “we have it on good authority that his aides have neither seen nor heard from him since Tuesday.
“Calls put to his mobile line have also remained unanswered; this has now prompted us to issue this alarm as we would not take it lightly should anything untoward happen to him.
“We are giving the Federal Government 48 hours to produce the priest, else they should be ready to face Igbo youths. They were dining and wining with him all along and now that he told the truth, they are no longer comfortable with him.
“Let nothing happen to Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka. It will not be in anybody’s interest,” the group warned.
