We killed five Greenfield University students to expose govt’s failure – Bandits
The bandits, who abducted the 22 Greenfield University students in Kaduna State and murdered five of them, have revealed the reasons behind the killing.
WUZUPNIGERIA reported that the bandits had made an initial ransom demand of ₦800m but following the failure of authorities and parents’ to meet the demands, five of the students were killed within days of the abduction.
Recall that after the killings of the student, the Kaduna State Government led by Governor Nasir El-Rufai, categorically stated that it won’t negotiate with the bandits.
But according to Daily Trust, the bandits alleged that the families of the students already paid ₦55 million to them, claiming that they spent the money to feed the students.
The bandits have, however, demanded a new ransom of ₦100m as well as 10 brand Honda motorcycles which must be delivered by Tuesday, adding that the authorities would pick the dead bodies of the remaining 17 – 15 female and two male students – from the forest if they don’t meet their demands.
In an interview with the Hausa Service of Voice of America (VOA), a leader of the bandit group who identified himself as Sani Idris Jalingo, said: “We heard the utterances of the Kaduna State Governor that he will not pay ransom to bandits to purchase additional arms.
“He also said he told his family that he will not pay ransom if any of them is kidnapped. So, we want to show that the Nigerian Government has failed that is why we killed the students,” he said.
