Nigerian soldiers who sustained various degrees of injuries in a battle with members of the Boko Haram terrorist group have alleged being left out in the recent special promotions for those fighting insurgents.
The injured soldiers who are receiving treatment at the 44, Army Referral Hospital, Kaduna, made this known on Tuesday, when the General Officer Commander, 1 division, Muhammad Muhammad, visited them at the hospital.
The GOC’s visit was part of the activities marking the annual West Africa Social Activities that held at the parade ground of the 2 battalion, Ribadu cantonment in Kaduna on Saturday.
The soldiers lamented that despite their sacrifices, they were not included among the over 3000 of the colleagues that were recently given special promotions.
They complained about their welfare, saying presently they are incapable of providing for their families because of their conditions.
One of the soldiers told the GOC that his allowance for February and October 2017 has not been paid while another soldier complained that he is currently incapacitated as he can no longer go for an operation to take care of his family needs. He appealed to the authorities for financial assistance.
The GOC in his response said his visit was part of the activities for the WASA, and assured them that their complaints would be forwarded to the Chief of Army Staff.
Muhammad who stated that he is very passionate about the welfare of soldiers and officers promised to make a case for them.
