The Nigeria Police Force has issued a statement clarifying that it did not raid the secretariat of the Nigeria Labour Congress.

In a statement released on Friday, Force spokesman Muyiwa Adejobi explained that the police operation was aimed at apprehending a suspected criminal who was found in a shop located in the Centre Business District of Abuja, which happened to be within the NLC building.

“Detectives, armed with the appropriate legal authority, conducted an operation at the location, which turned out to be the NLC building,” Adejobi said. “This well-coordinated, lawful operation was solely aimed at apprehending the prime suspect—a foreign national implicated in numerous criminal activities across Nigeria and other African countries.”

Adejobi emphasized that the operation had no connection with the NLC, its staff, or its leadership. “The NLC Secretariat was not the focus of the operation,” he said. “The operation targeted a rented shop within the building, used by the suspect as a front for his criminal activities in Nigeria.”

The police force assured the NLC and the public that their operation was necessary for security and law enforcement. “The Nigeria Police Force seeks the cooperation and support of the NLC leadership as we continue this investigation,” Adejobi added. “The high-profile nature of the suspect poses a significant security threat, making this investigation crucial for the safety of all involved, including the NLC.”

The NPF also reassured the public of their commitment to the rule of law and respect for human rights. “We urge Nigerians to remain vigilant and conduct security profiling of individuals seeking to rent space within their premises,” Adejobi advised.
