President Bola Tinubu has announced ambitious plans to transform Nigeria’s agricultural landscape, declaring his administration’s commitment to making farming more attractive to Nigerians and investors alike.
During his Democracy Day address at the National Assembly on Thursday, the President outlined a comprehensive strategy to boost food production and create employment opportunities across the country.
“We are making agriculture more sexy by providing tractors and I ask you, the legislature, to join me as we enter the second half of our term to put forth innovative legislation that further encourages industrial development and job creation in our urban centres while also drafting laws that improve food security and production,” Tinubu said.
The President revealed plans to launch a major empowerment initiative in July that will benefit 400,000 Nigerians. This program is part of broader reforms aimed at strengthening the economy and reducing dependence on food imports. “We must learn to produce what we eat,” Tinubu emphasized, highlighting the administration’s dual focus on creating urban jobs while ensuring rural food security.
Tinubu’s agricultural revolution includes deploying modern farming equipment across the country and introducing digital tools to improve efficiency and reduce waste. The President stressed that these measures, combined with ongoing tax reforms and anti-corruption efforts at the Bank of Industry, are positioning Nigeria’s economy for significant growth.
“We have placed the economy on a more rational footing where critical decisions regarding large-scale investment can now be made,” Tinubu said. He urged legislative support for new laws that would encourage industrial development while improving food production.
