Damian Szymański scored a late equaliser to rescue Poland from a World Cup Qualifying defeat to England at home in Warsaw.

Poland welcomed Gareth Southgate’s side who had a 100 per cent record in Group I clash in the race for Qatar 2022.

The home side managed to keep the group leaders at bay through the first 45 minutes which ended in a scuffle that saw Manchester United’s Harry Maguire and Benevento’s Kamil Glick booked after the whistle.

But after over an hour of stalemate at the National Stadium Warsaw, Tottenham talisman, Harry Kane, broke the deadlock with a long-range effort in the 72nd minute, leaving Juventus’ Wojciech Szczęsny helpless.

Kane is now fifth on England’s all time record scorer with 41 goals beating Liverpool icon, Michael Owen by a goal.

The Three Lions were hoping to continue their perfect run, having won all of their group matches but the Polish side had another option in mind.

Having been kept from scoring throughout regular time, goal machine, Robert Lewandowski turned provide in additional time when his cross found the head of Szymański who beat Everton’s Jordan Pickford for a dramatic end.

The home fans sprung back to life in jubilation as the Dynamo Moscow man celebrated his first-ever national team goal for Poland.

Although both sides shared the spoils after the whistle, England dropped their first point in the qualifiers but kept their lead atop Group I with 16 points.

Southgate’s men remain unbeaten and are four points clear of second-placed Albania.

Poland, on the other hand, trail Albania by a point in third place, followed by Hungary who chase closely by a point as well with four matches each to go.
