Warring Osun communities sign peace accord
The communities of Ifon and Ilobu in Osun State have taken a significant step towards peace by signing a peace agreement with the state government.
This agreement aims to restore order in both communities and encourages the immediate cessation of hostilities.
The peace accord was announced in a statement by the Osun State Commissioner for Information and Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi.
The state government views this development as a positive sign towards achieving lasting peace in the affected areas.
It also reiterated its decision to maintain the 24-hour curfew that had been previously imposed.
The statement noted that the recent communal conflict had resulted in the loss of lives and property in both communities.
The peace agreement, reached during a stakeholders’ meeting, involved leaders from Ifon, Ilobu, and Olokanla communities, as well as government officials.
Governor Ademola Adeleke commended the communities for their commitment to peace.
The government emphasized that the 24-hour curfew would continue until complete peace, law, and order were restored.
It warned that anyone violating the terms of the peace agreement would face legal consequences.
The security forces, comprising the Nigerian Army, Police, and Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, would maintain round-the-clock surveillance to ensure lasting peace in the affected areas.
