I WANT N1.062 MILLION! Nigeria man sues Chinese company, says he was fired for complaining about racist comments

A Chinese-owned automobile company, CIG Motors Company Ltd., has been dragged before the National Industrial Court in Lagos, over the alleged wrongful sacking of one of its employees, Akeem Adeyemi.

Adeyemi, who was the company’s sales manager prior to his sacking, claimed, in the suit, that his sacking followed his protest against racial comments against him by the company’s chairperson, Mrs. Chen Xuixia.

The Nigerian alleged that by virtue of his position then as the company’s sales manager, he often interacted with Xuixia, during which “she was always complaining and murmuring racial comments against me.”

He claimed that his eventual sacking on August 31, 2017 by the Chinese company had to do with his protest against the racial comments.

Adeyemi’s lawyer, Mr. Olawale Fapohunda, is urging the court to declare that his client’s right to freedom from discrimination under Section 42 of the 1999 Constitution had been violated.

He wants the court to declare that Adeyemi’s sacking was wrongful, malicious and illegal.

Besides, the claimant also accused the defendant of failure to remit his contributory pension from April to August 2017.

Fapohunda contended that the defendant violated the provisions of the Pension Reforms Act 2014.

He further contended that the alleged refusal by the defendant to remit his client’s Personal Income Tax monthly deduction to the Lagos State Internal Revenue Services was unlawful and a violation of the provisions of the Personal Income Tax Act Cap P8 LFN 2004.
