Afrobeats star Davido has opened up about his growing rift with fellow singer Wande Coal, claiming the Black Diamond star has been trying to get his attention despite their recent public disagreement.
According to News Central, Davido addressed the situation during an interview in which he spoke about the tension surrounding their relationship and the controversy over their unreleased collaboration.
The disagreement between the two singers has recently spilled into public view, with both artistes exchanging words over Wande Coal’s song “Come My Way” and the version that featured Davido.
Davido explains ‘Come My Way’ disagreement
The controversy dates back to a collaboration recorded for “Come My Way,” which Wande Coal eventually released as a solo track in 2021.
Davido said Wande Coal initially approached him to feature on the song before its release and that he recorded a verse he considered particularly strong.
However, he said the problem began when the proposed release arrangement changed. According to Davido, Wande wanted to release his solo version first and later put out the version featuring him as a remix.
Davido said he disagreed with the arrangement because he had not recorded his verse with the intention of appearing on a remix.
Wande Coal subsequently challenged Davido’s version of events, arguing that the song already had a release plan and questioning why Davido should dictate how a track that belonged to him should be released.
The disagreement quickly escalated online, drawing reactions from fans of both artistes.
Davido says Wande Coal wants his attention
Addressing the latest tension, Davido suggested that Wande Coal’s reaction went beyond the disagreement over their song.
“He’s been looking for my attention for some reason, I don’t know,” Davido said.
The singer then revealed that Wande Coal had allegedly tried to obtain his phone number through another person only weeks before their latest public exchange.
“He even asked for my number two weeks ago and I told them not to give him,” he said.
Davido said he did not understand why Wande Coal was publicly reacting strongly when, according to him, the singer had recently been trying to establish direct contact.
He dismissed Wande’s behaviour as temporary, saying, “He’s just acting like a baby, he’ll be fine.”
Davido shares alleged proof of number request
Davido later appeared to back up the claim by sharing a screenshot of a WhatsApp conversation in which someone asked whether Wande Coal could be given his phone number.
The message shown in the screenshot read, “Baddest Wande Coal said he wants your number can I give him?”
The post further intensified discussion around the dispute, with fans questioning how the relationship between the two Afrobeats stars deteriorated despite Wande allegedly attempting to contact Davido privately.
Public feud deepens
The disagreement has become one of the latest public clashes involving two established figures in Nigerian music.
Wande Coal and Davido have previously spoken positively about each other, while Davido has often acknowledged Wande’s influence and vocal ability.
Their latest exchange, however, has shifted attention back to the unreleased “Come My Way” collaboration and the differing accounts of why the version featuring Davido never received an official release.
For Davido, the current reaction from Wande appears to be more about gaining his attention than the song itself, particularly given his claim that the singer had recently tried to obtain his contact.
Davido also faced a question about Wizkid during the interview as the conversation moved to his relationships with other leading Afrobeats stars.
