Walker extends Manchester City contract till 2024

Kyle Walker has signed a new contract at Manchester City which will keep him at the Club until the summer of 2024.

The right-back English international  has put pen to paper on a two-year extension.

Walker joined City from Tottenham Hotspur in July 2017 and has become a stalwart in defence, clocking up 100 appearances in all competitions and helping Pep Guardiola’s men to two Premier League titles, two League Cups, an FA Cup and a Community Shield.

Having played such a key role in City’s achievements, Walker now hopes to help build a period of sustained success for the ‘Fourmidables’.

“I’m thrilled to have signed a new deal,” he said. “Playing for City has been everything I’d hoped it would be and more.

“It was an easy decision. I want to be competing for trophies, playing at the highest level, and I feel I have improved hugely as a player during my time here.

“The Club’s vision – both on and off the pitch – matches mine perfectly and I’m looking forward to spending the new five years here, hopefully winning more silverware.”

Director of Football Txiki Begiristain added:

“We are delighted to have Kyle here for a further two years.

“His strength, speed and ability have been vital to our accomplishments. He is a key member of the squad.

“His experience is invaluable, particularly to the younger members of the team, and his contribution will be crucial in our efforts for continued success.”

Upon making the move to Manchester in the summer of 2017, Walker slotted straight into Guardiola’s squad, making his competitive debut in our 2-0 away win at Brighton on the opening day of our record-breaking 2017/18 campaign.

He quickly established himself as City’s first-choice right-back, tallying 48 appearances in his debut season and showcasing his attacking threat with seven assists, as Guardiola’s men completed a league and cup double, lifting the Premier League trophy with an unprecedented 100 points.

The 29-year-old then made his World Cup debut, playing on the right side of a three-man England defence, helping the Three Lions to the semi-finals in Russia.

His 2018/19 campaign would emulate his first, with 52 appearances and his first goals for the Club – a stunning long-range winner against Newcastle and a strike in the League Cup semi-final triumph over Burton Albion. Once again, he proved a key figure as City secured a historic complete collection of English trophies.

Everyone at the Club is delighted with the news of Kyle’s extension and we wish him the very best for the coming seasons.
