WAEC withdraws 2025 WASSCE results over system error

The West African Examinations Council has withdrawn the 2025 WASSCE results for school candidates after discovering technical issues caused by a new system aimed at stopping exam malpractice.

WAEC announced in a statement released on Thursday by its Acting Head of Public Affairs, Moyosola Adesina.

The glitch was linked to a paper serialization method recently introduced in Mathematics, English Language, Biology, and Economics. The system, borrowed from another national exam body, assigns different question papers to curb cheating.

“As part of our efforts to curb examination malpractice, the Council embarked on an innovation already deployed by a national examination body,” the statement said.

“The paper serialization was carried out in Mathematics, English Language, Biology and Economics. However, an internal post result release procedure revealed some technical bugs in the results.”

Following this discovery, WAEC said it temporarily disabled access to the results on its checking portal to fix the errors.

“We extend our deep and sincere apologies to all affected candidates and the general public,” the Council said.

“We appreciate their patience and understanding as we work diligently to resolve this matter with transparency and urgency within the next twenty four hours.”

Candidates who had already checked their results are advised to re-check them after the 24-hour window.

WAEC assured that fairness and accuracy remain at the heart of its assessment process and urged the public to continue trusting its work.
