The West African Examinations Council has given private candidates more time to register for the Computer-Based West African Senior School Certificate Examination shifting the deadline from September 5 to September 19, 2025.

The extension was confirmed in a post on WAEC’s official X account on Friday.

“The registration period for CB-WASSCE for Private Candidates, 2025—Second Series, has been extended to Friday, September 19, 2025. All prospective candidates are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity,” the statement read.

The CB-WASSCE, which replaces the traditional manual format with a digital process, has drawn mixed reactions from the public. While some welcomed the shift as a step toward modernisation, others expressed doubts about its practicality and accessibility for candidates in rural and underserved areas.

The council, however, maintains that the move will improve efficiency and transparency in the conduct of the examinations.

This second series of the exam offers an opportunity for school leavers and independent learners to sit for their papers before the end of the year.
