The West African Examinations Council has confirmed the Senior School Certificate Examination results of the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, effectively dispelling renewed concerns surrounding his academic credentials.

An exclusive report by TheCable dated January 8, 2026, disclosed that WAEC issued an official Attestation of Results showing that Tunji-Ojo sat for the examination in June 1999 at Staff Secondary School, Federal University of Technology, Akure.

Documents released by the minister’s media office reveal that the attestation contains his complete personal details, an embossed photograph, and standard security features.

The results show grades in nine subjects, including A1 in Agricultural Science and Yoruba Language; B3 in Economics, Mathematics, Biology, and Physics; and C6 in Chemistry, English Language, and Further Mathematics.

The certificate, numbered NGWASSCS 707650, also carries the official signatures of WAEC authorities.

The confirmation follows a petition submitted in December 2025 by the Centre for Leadership Legacy International, which had urged President Bola Tinubu to probe allegations related to the minister’s WAEC certificate.

Questions had earlier been raised over Tunji-Ojo’s National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) discharge certificate shortly after his appointment in 2023.

Close associates of the minister have dismissed the repeated allegations as politically driven attempts to smear his reputation, noting that WAEC attestations are legitimate documents issued as replacements or official verifications of original certificates.

Tunji-Ojo, who was appointed in 2023 to oversee internal security, migration, and border management, had his academic qualifications thoroughly examined during his Senate confirmation. Issues previously linked to his NYSC record were later addressed by the corps, which affirmed the authenticity of the certificate despite delays in its issuance.
