Registered Voters in two polling units at Bassa-Jiwa voting centre, Airport Village, failed to show up on Saturday during the Presidential and National Assembly Elections.

The presiding officers of the two units and their assistants were seen assisting their colleagues in-charge of Bassa-Jiwa polling units.

The voting centre is under Jiwa Ward of Abuja Municipal Area Council.

The Presiding Officer of Jiwa Transformer, Madala and Sabon Angwa, Lucky Tongs, said he came with the materials only to discover that voters were not available.

Tongs said that he and his team decided to go into the village to look for the voters but that they were nowhere to be found.

The Presiding Officer for Taka Lafia unit, Charles Ezekiel, narrated a similar story, saying they were asked to join their colleagues in other polling units to assist.

Meanwhile, the Presiding Officer of Bassa-Jiwa polling unit, Mr Wowo Tankil, said the process had been smooth, adding that there were no cases of card reader failure.

He said there were 2,500 registered voters spread across five voting points at the unit.

He added that the materials got the voting centre at 9a.m. while accreditation and voting commenced at 10a.m.

A voter, Jeffrey Bamayi, commended the process, saying it was an improvement of the previous elections.

“The process has been smooth and we thank God because it is contrary to what we expected like that there would be crisis but there is nothing like that,’’ he said.

“As far this place is concerned, INEC has tried and we commend the process.

“They arrived before 9a.m. and voting commenced before 10a.m. and all the card readers are working well except for those whose cards are broken,” he said.
