Many of us have heard or used the phrase; an apple a day keeps the doctor away. This has given us reasons to gobble down on the popular fruit when we decide to stay healthy.
But does an apple a day REALLY keep the doctor away?
Apple is a great fruit and it is certainly packed with benefits that could help promote long-term good health.
Support in weight loss, contributing to healthy bones, promoting brain function, helping to reduce chances of diabetes are some of the benefits of eating apples.
Let us take a bite of the JAMA Internal Medicine journal which published the ‘Association between Apple Consumption and Physician Visits’ and concluded that;
“Evidence does not support that an apple a day keeps the doctor away; however, the small fraction of US adults who eat an apple a day do appear to use fewer prescription medications.”
As it is said, too much of anything is bad, so, eating multiple apples daily may cause several side effects on your health.
While the original quote says, “Eat an apple on going to bed, and you’ll keep the doctor from earning his bread,” you still need to visit your doctor.
