Two men were reportedly beaten by an angry mob after they were allegedly caught stealing in Asaba, Delta State.
A viral video of the incident, which surfaced online on Wednesday, showed the suspects being assaulted by residents who accused them of involvement in theft and other criminal activities in the area.
According to Punch Newspapers, the incident occurred days after armed robbers reportedly attacked several gadget stores in parts of Asaba, heightening tension and insecurity concerns among residents.
The footage showed the suspects being surrounded and physically attacked by a crowd as some residents expressed frustration over the rising cases of theft in the community.
The incident has since generated mixed reactions on social media, with some Nigerians condemning the act as jungle justice while others defended the mob’s actions over growing insecurity and alleged repeated criminal attacks in the area.
As of the time of filing this report, authorities in Delta State had yet to officially comment on the incident.
