A trigger-happy policeman (name unknown) has reportedly shot a motorcycle (popularly called okada) rider around the Ketu area of Lagos State.
According to reports, the bike man was shot in the leg at Adamson Street, Ketu Lagos, after violating bike curfew in the street.
In the video uploaded on Instagram by @airman.88, a group of angry residents could be heard questioning the policeman, while some tore his vest.
Responding to the questions, the policeman blamed the devil for his actions, “na devil,” he said as other residents could be seen lifting the victim on the policeman’s bike as they head to a nearby hospital.
It is unknown if they made it to the hospital or whether the matter has been reported to the appropriate authorities for further actions.
This comes at a time when youths across the country and the outside world have clamoured for an end to police brutality in Nigeria.
Recall that the #EndSARS protest across the country led to the disbandment of the notorious and now-defunct Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) unit, a police unit infamous for criminal activities like extortion, inaccurate profiling of many young Nigerians as Yahoo Boys(internet fraudsters) as well as killing amongst others.
The protesters spiralled into violence and looting after thugs and hoodlums hijacked the peaceful protests in many cities in the country, hours after soldiers attacked unarmed protesters at the Lekki Toll Gate on the 20th of October 2020.
