VIDEO: Singer Terry G bids farewell to music

Popular Nigerian singer, Gabriel Amanyi, widely known as Terry G or the ‘Akpako Master,’ has announced his decision to quit the music scene, citing personal reasons.

The singer shared the news through an emotional video posted on his Instagram account with the caption, “It’s Been A Journey ❤️🙏❤️.”

In the video, Terry G expressed gratitude to his fans for their unwavering support throughout the years, saying, “I’m about to make a big announcement, I know it’s gonna hurt a lot of people, but I have my personal reason. I want to say that I am quitting music. I no dey do again. I’m done, and I really appreciate you guys.”

The decision marks the end of an era for Terry G, who gained fame for his unique style and hit songs such as “Akpako Master” and “Free Madness.”

Earlier this year, the artist had outlined his plans for 2024 in an interview with Saturday Beats.

He had mentioned upcoming projects, stating, “I will be putting out new content. My single will be dropping early this year with a video. I will also be releasing an album.” Additionally, Terry G expressed his interest in venturing into other forms of entertainment, saying, “I want to shoot my own movie too. I am writing the script, and I’ll act in it. I am also writing a book about my experience.”

The book, titled ‘Chante Chante: The Book of Ginjah,’ aims to provide insights into the meaning of Terry G’s unique and often termed ‘nonsense’ words, allowing fans to understand and appreciate his music on a deeper level.

Reflecting on his impact on the music industry, Terry G stated, “I will not change but I will keep evolving.”
