There was tension in the Ota-Ona area of Ikorodu, Lagos State, on Monday afternoon, as an uncompleted two-storey building collapsed, trapping several people under the rubble.
The building, located directly opposite the Mobil Filling Station (formerly Bugon Filling Station), caved in suddenly, sparking panic among residents and passersby.
A Facebook user, Rasheed Fatuga, who raised the alarm online, confirmed that the structure collapsed around midday. He shared a video showing emergency responders and bystanders at the scene as rescue efforts continued.
“So far, five people have been rescued alive,” Fatuga stated. “But we don’t know how many are still under the building.”
Emergency teams were seen working tirelessly to clear the debris and search for more survivors. Residents and sympathisers also joined the rescue effort.
As of the time of this report, the number of people still trapped remains unknown, and the cause of the collapse has not yet been officially confirmed.
Authorities are expected to release a full statement after the ongoing rescue operations are completed.
