Three days after his arrest at the Murtala Muhammad International Airport in Lagos, a viral video showing former Anambra Governor, Willie Obiano, chilling in the cell of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has surfaced on the internet.
Footage of the 12-second clip, which was made available to WuzupNigeria, captured the moment an exhausted Obiano took a sip of water from a bottle.
‘Akpokuedike, as he is popularly called, was dressed in a White T-shirt and a pair of red short.
The immediate past governor of Anambra, who wore a pensive look, was also spotted discussing with a yet-to-be-identified man in the video.
Recall that the EFCC said it is investigating Obiano over his alleged misappropriation of N42 billion, which included N5bn Sure-P and N37bn security vote belonging to the state.
The agency claimed that it had last year placed the former governor on its watch list and also asked the Nigeria Immigration Service to stop him from leaving the country in a letter issued to the Comptroller-General of Immigration dated November 15, 2021.
The EFCC spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren, has revealed that, “Obiano has been flown to Abuja (on Friday). He is currently at our Abuja office.
“Obiano was arrested for alleged misappropriation of public funds, including, N5bn Sure-P and N37bn security vote which was withdrawn in cash. Part of the funds was also allegedly diverted to finance political activities in the state.”
WuzupNigeria earlier reported how Obiano was arrested in Lagos by the EFCC on Thursday night, shortly after he handed over to the new Anambra Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo amid a ‘slapping’ drama between his wife, Ebelechukwu and Bianca, widow of a former warlord, Ikemba Chukwuemeka Ojukwu.
