A video showing a groom sliding under his bride’s gown to take out the garter is making the rounds online.
To many Nigerians, it is a “shocking something” to do in public but it is a popular “wedding tradition”. Only that it is not an African culture or safer to say, not a Nigerian culture.
Even though the video posted on Bella Naija only showed the groom being dragged out from under the bride we don’t know if the show was completed.
This is it, the move is basically the equivalent of the bouquet toss. The bride throws the bouquet into a group of single women and the woman to catch the bouquet is the next to get married. The groom throws the garter, what he went under to remove with his mouth from his bride’s leg, into a group of single men and the man who catches it is the next to get married.
Now that you know would you still be shocked if you see the tradition at a Nigerian wedding?
