Luxury sports car manufacturer Ferrari has unveiled its first fully electric vehicle, marking a major shift for the iconic Italian brand despite slowing global demand for electric cars.
According to CNN, the new model named “Luce,” meaning “light” in Italian, was officially presented on Monday and is expected to begin deliveries in the fourth quarter of 2026.
The four door vehicle, developed with the help of former Apple design chief Jony Ive and his design collective LoveFrom, is also Ferrari’s first five seater.
Priced at €550,000, approximately $640,000, the Luce is aimed at wealthy families seeking luxury, comfort, and high end technology.
Ferrari CEO Benedetto Vigna described the launch as the result of years of development.
“It’s the result of five years of work,” Vigna told reporters during the unveiling in Rome.
The company said the electric car combines Ferrari’s traditional performance identity with modern EV technology. The Luce features four electric motors, one on each wheel, producing more than 1,000 horsepower and a top speed exceeding 310 kilometres per hour.
Ferrari added that the vehicle has a driving range of more than 500 kilometres.
The automaker also revealed that the Luce was designed to preserve the emotional feel associated with Ferrari vehicles by amplifying natural vibration sounds from the electric powertrain.
Ferrari’s chief marketing and commercial officer, Enrico Galliera, said the company believes many customers are looking for something different from the brand’s traditional petrol powered sports cars.
“In our client base there are many who are still looking for something completely different, to be used in different moments of life,” Galliera said.
The launch comes as other luxury automakers, including Porsche and Lamborghini, reportedly slow down their electric vehicle plans over weaker than expected market demand.
Ferrari hopes the Luce will also strengthen its position in markets such as China, where electric vehicles are already widely adopted and large petrol engines face heavy taxation.
The vehicle’s design marks a noticeable departure from Ferrari’s traditional aggressive sports car styling, featuring a larger body, expansive glass elements, and a more family oriented layout while maintaining the company’s signature luxury interior finish.
