Dead body recovered from Ibadan explosion



In a heartbreaking development following the explosion in Adeyi Avenue, Bodija, Ibadan, a dead have been recovered from the debris of destroyed buildings by the National Security and Civil Defence Corps in collaboration with the Federal Road Safety Corps.

A video from our correspondent Buna Juliet, showed rescue teams on Wednesday morning making efforts to clear the body for transportation to the mortuary.

As of now, the gender of the corpse and the exact casualties figure remain unconfirmed.

Wuzup Nigeria had earlier reported 2 fatalities and 77 injured victims in the aftermath of the explosion.

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde attributed the explosion to the activities of illegal miners occupying a building in the Bodija area.

He stated, “Preliminary investigations by the security agencies revealed that illegal miners occupying one of the houses in Bodija had stored explosive devices there which caused the blast.”

In a statement posted on his verified X (formerly Twitter) handle, Governor Makinde provided updates on the situation and the government’s response.

He expressed condolences, saying, “This unfortunate incident resulted in death and injury to residents in the vicinity and also affected properties.”

The governor assured the public of ongoing comprehensive search and rescue operations, with deployed resources such as earth-moving equipment, ambulances, emergency lights, and security personnel.

Makinde extended support to those affected, stating, “We will also be providing temporary accommodation for those whose houses were affected and ensuring that they are supported to rebuild their lives.”

While investigations into the incident continue, the governor reassured the public, saying, “All those found culpable for this will be brought to book.”

He urged residents to stay away from the immediate scene, allowing for uninterrupted rescue operations.
