Veteran Nollywood actor Taiwo Hassan ‘Ogogo’ dies after cancer battle

Veteran Nollywood actor and filmmaker Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, has died following a battle with stage-four cancer. He was 66.

His daughter, Kira Hassan, confirmed his death during an emotional Instagram Live session on Sunday, saying she was struggling to come to terms with the loss.

The development comes days after Kira revealed that the actor had been diagnosed with advanced-stage cancer. She said at the time that the family was not seeking financial donations but needed assistance in finding a hospital capable of admitting and treating him.

According to her, some hospitals had turned the actor away because his illness had reached an advanced stage.

Ogogo’s death occurred roughly two months before his 67th birthday.

The veteran actor was one of the prominent figures in Yoruba-language cinema, earning widespread recognition through a career that spanned several decades. He was known for his work as both an actor and filmmaker and made significant contributions to the growth of Nigeria’s film industry.

His death marks another loss for Nollywood and has prompted an outpouring of grief from fans, colleagues and admirers of his work.
