Veteran Korean composer faces sexual harassment probe

A controversy has emerged within the Korea Music Copyright Association after a veteran composer affiliated with the organization was accused of sexually harassing a female employee.

According to industry sources on the 23rd, composer A, a man in his 60s and a member of the Music Copyright Association (hereinafter referred to as the Music Copyright Association), is currently facing disciplinary proceedings over allegations that he sexually harassed an internal female staff member.

A is reportedly said to have acknowledged the allegations.

The issue came to light after the female employee filed a complaint regarding A’s alleged conduct. The employee directly reported the matter to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, bringing the case to official attention.

Reports indicate that A allegedly made inappropriate and sexually explicit remarks toward the employee during a drinking gathering. The employee is said to have suffered significant emotional distress following the incident.

After reviewing the facts, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism reportedly instructed the Music Copyright Association to separate A from the alleged victim in the workplace and called for strict disciplinary measures.

In response, the Music Copyright Association is scheduled to hold a board meeting later in the day to determine the level of disciplinary action and discuss additional measures regarding A.

A has been regarded as a prominent figure within the organization since 2008, having served multiple terms as an auditor of the association.

He began his career in 1985 and has built a reputation in the music industry through composing songs for several well-known Korean singers.
