Veteran Nollywood actor Mustapha Bakare, popularly known as Otolo, has shared one of the most challenging experiences of his decades-long acting career.
The 68-year-old thespian revealed that he was plunged into heavy debt following the sudden death of his movie marketer.
In an interview, Bakare recounted that he took a ₦4 million loan from Oceanic Bank to finance his personal film project.
According to him, the movie had just been released when tragedy struck.
“I’ve worked with a lot of marketers, but there’s one who I really love and respect — her name is Lady Prince,” he said.
“When I wanted to produce my movie titled ‘Ise Oru,’ I went to Oceanic Bank to collect a loan of ₦4 million. After shooting the movie and releasing it, within two months, the marketer slumped and died.”
Bakare explained that he made several attempts to negotiate with the late marketer’s husband after her death, but all efforts proved unsuccessful, leaving him solely responsible for the bank loan.
“The bank started asking for their money, which I didn’t have,” he said.
“When the pressure became too much, I relocated to Oshogbo, Osun State.”
The actor disclosed that during this difficult period, he met popular clergyman Agbala Gabriel, who offered him timely assistance and helped clear a significant portion of the outstanding debt.
“He helped me refund a huge part of the money to the bank,” Otolo added, expressing gratitude for the pastor’s intervention.
