Social media activist Martins Otse, widely known as VeryDarkMan, has apologized to the Nigeria Police Force after wearing an outfit similar to a police uniform and calling himself “CSP” in a viral video.

VeryDarkMan posted a video and statement on his Instagram on Wednesday, explaining that he recently visited a police station for questioning.

He stated, “Back from the police station where I was interrogated based on the post I made wearing a costume that the police claim is similar to theirs. I didn’t intend to impersonate the police in any way, and I tender my unreserved apologies to the Nigeria Police Force and the office of the Inspector General of Police.”

VeryDarkMan clarified that his use of “CSP” was a misunderstanding, explaining, “I made my video and said CSP. What I meant was Chief Social Media Person; however, the Nigeria Police has a rank called Chief Superintendent of Police.”

He also used this chance to advise others. “I would like to urge the general public to always seek permission from the police or other law enforcement agencies before using anything that might resemble their uniform.”

Following the viral video, the Force Headquarters had condemned the use of what seemed to be a police uniform and promised to investigate the “unauthorized use of Police uniform” by the social media

personality.
