An Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Juvenile Court in Ibadan on Tuesday remanded a 15-year-old teenager (name withheld) for allegedly killing a fellow inmate in a correctional home.
The Magistrate, Mrs Kehinde Omotosho, ordered that the boy should be remanded at juvenile correctional home pending the outcome of legal advice from Oyo State Ministry of Justice.
Omotosho, thereafter, adjourned the case till March 28, for the mention.
The accused was charged with murder.
Earlier, the Police Prosecutor, Insp. Sikiru Opaleye, told the court that the teenager around 1:45a.m. on Dec.11, 2018 at Juvenile Correctional Home, Sango, Ibadan, allegedly caused the death of another inmate (name withheld).
Opeleye said that 10-year-old deceased, a deaf and dumb, was suffocated by the accused.
“The accused allegedly suffocated the victim, also an inmate of the correctional home, with a mattress which he placed on his face.
“The accused said that the deceased drank his gari,” Opaleye said.
He said the offence contravened Sections 316 and 319 of the Criminal Code Cap 38, Vol. II, Law of Oyo State 2000.
