Venezuela earthquake death toll rises to 4,118 as injuries reach 16,740

The number of fatalities from the two powerful earthquakes that recently struck Venezuela has climbed to 4,118 while the number of injured victims has increased to 16,740, the National Assembly President Jorge Rodríguez confirmed on Saturday.

In a statement shared on his Telegram channel, Rodríguez disclosed the latest figures, stating that “the number of victims has reached 4,118 dead, while the number of injured has reached 16,740,” according to Russian news agency Sputnik.

The country was hit by a series of strong seismic events, including two major earthquakes measuring 7.2 and 7.5 on the Richter scale, based on information from the US Geological Survey.

The initial tremors were followed by about 30 aftershocks, adding to the destruction and disruption caused across affected areas.

Earlier, acting Venezuelan President Delcy Rodríguez announced a state of emergency following the earthquakes, which resulted in significant loss of lives and widespread damage to infrastructure and property.
