A tragic accident on the new Ibadan-Oyo Expressway has claimed four lives and left two others injured, according to officials.

The crash occurred at Idi-Ori in Akinyele Local Government Area when two commercial vehicles – a yellow Volvo and a DAF truck – collided according to the PUNCH. Eyewitnesses blamed the accident on an obstruction on the road.

“Four people died immediately while two injured passengers were rushed to University College Hospital for treatment,” said Adekunle Adeleke, an eyewitness who spoke to our correspondent.

Federal Road Safety Corps and police officials quickly responded to the scene. Oyo State FRSC Commander Rosemary Alo confirmed the incident, stating:

“The police conducted the rescue operation as the crash happened near their office. The bodies have been taken to UCH morgue while the wrecked vehicles have been cleared from the road to ease traffic flow.”

Alo warned drivers to exercise more caution on the roads, especially along busy expressways. FRSC officers from the Moniya unit remain on site managing traffic.

This latest tragedy comes just hours after a fuel tanker explosion caused gridlock on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, highlighting growing concerns about road safety in southwestern Nigeria.
