Celebrity fashion designer Veekee James has spoken candidly about the toll false rumours took on her mental health, revealing that online speculation about her personal life led her into a deep emotional crisis.
In an interview with media personality Nancy Isime, Veekee recounted how an allegation that she had “snatched” her husband, Femi Atere, from a friend became a breaking point in her emotional well-being.
The experience, she said, marked her first real confrontation with depression.
“There was one that really shook me, and that was the period when we had to ask God to help us come out of it. Immediately, we came out of it; that was the end,” she said.
The designer explained how the scandalous claims circulated online affected her deeply, causing her to withdraw completely for days. “It was a story about how I stole him from a friend, and we were sleeping with each other, which was all lies. And it almost put me into depression. That was the first time I got to know what people who say they feel depressed felt.”
Veekee went on to describe the intense emotional distress she experienced during the episode. “I remember entering my room and not coming out for two days. I was crying and praying. The way God brought me out felt like a miracle, and I kept hearing more stories, which I laugh,” she said.
Though the rumours were unfounded, Veekee acknowledged the lasting impact they had on her, noting that the ordeal deepened her understanding of depression and mental health. She credited her faith and resilience as the key forces that helped her regain stability.
