The governor of Imo state, Hope Uzodinma on Friday renamed Imo College of Education, Isinweke after late senator Benjamin Uwajumogu.

The governor who spoke during the burial of Uwajumogu at his country home in Isinweke in the Ihitte/ Uboma Local Government Area of the state said that Nigeria had lost patriotic citizens.

Uzodinma said that he had communicated with the speaker of the state House of Assembly, Collins Chiji to begin the process of putting legislative backing to the renaming of the college after the departed lawmaker.

Uwajumogu, a former speaker of the state house of Assembly, was until his death on December 18 the senator representing Imo North Senatorial District at the senate.

Describing Uwajumogu as his political ally who fought many political battles and triumphed together, the governor said that Nigerian would miss Uwajumogu’s services.

Uzodinma said that Uwajumogu attracted development to his people and would have done more if death had spared him.

The governor said Uwajumogu was in a hurry to accomplish his goals in life.

He said that at 55, the late senator achieved what many politicians could not achieve at 80.

He said:

“Senator Benjamin Uwajumogu attracted development to his people hence a former governor nicknamed him Isinweke because he was talking about the development of his area.

” He was a dogged fighter and we fought many political battles together and we won. Nigeria will miss and the national Assembly will miss him.”
