Usher recently addressed the buzz surrounding his Super Bowl halftime show, particularly the attention-grabbing moment with Alicia Keys.
In a candid interview with The Breakfast Club, he also took the opportunity to address an older controversy involving his 2014 VMA performance with Nicki Minaj.
During the VMAs in 2014, Usher’s onstage antics with Nicki Minaj resurfaced on the internet, leading to accusations of inappropriate behavior. Usher explained to Charlamagne Tha God that certain dances in Jamaican culture involve physical contact, but he admitted that he may have gone a bit too far by smacking Nicki Minaj’s backside.
On the Super Bowl PDA with Alicia Keys, where he hugged her from behind during their performance of ‘My Boo,’ Usher stood his ground, stating it was a routine move. “It’s just part of the choreography,” he said, brushing off the criticism.
The interview also touched on a reference to Usher in an episode of “The Boondocks,” where a character becomes an Usher fan. Usher blamed this phenomenon on the “Usher Effect,” a term he coined humorously. Despite the playful banter, Usher affirmed that he and Alicia Keys, as well as her husband Swizz Beatz, were on good terms.
