New York police have arrested a 17-year-old girl after allegedly taking a joyride on an empty subway train and crashing it at Briarwood station in Queens.

According to the BBC, the incident occurred shortly after midnight on September 12.

The teenager faces charges of criminal mischief and reckless endangerment for entering and operating the train with a companion and causing a “collision.”

Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

Authorities are still searching for the second person involved. Surveillance images released by the New York Police Department show one suspect dressed in pink, including a shower cap, while the other was dressed in blue.

The NYPD has not provided details on how the pair gained access to the train or how far they were able to travel before the crash.

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority has yet to comment on the incident.

A similar case occurred in January at Forest Hills-71st Avenue station, also in Queens, where joyriders allegedly used a stolen key to operate a train. Although no injuries or damage were reported in that incident, it raised concerns about security on subway trains.

Authorities have reassured the public that these joyrides pose no risk of reaching active tracks, as safety measures are in place to prevent such occurrences.
