An 18-year-old Florida woman has been sentenced to 17 years in prison for fatally stabbing her boyfriend during an argument in Miami in December 2024, according to NBC report.

Jahara Malik pleaded guilty to manslaughter for the killing of 17-year-old Yahkeim Lollar. The stabbing occurred after the couple got into an argument near Northwest 6th Court and 61st Street on Dec. 20, 2024.

Malik was 17 at the time of the stabbing and was charged as an adult. She pleaded guilty in March without a plea deal, allowing a judge to determine her sentence.

During the sentencing hearing on Tuesday, Lollar’s aunt called Malik a “murderer” and a “demon seed,” while the victim’s mother had previously demanded the maximum sentence of 30 years, saying, “A life for a life. She took my son’s life for no reason.”

The judge noted that while she believed Malik was remorseful, she did not believe the stabbing was an isolated incident of aggression or that it was done in an unsophisticated manner.

Lollar, a junior at Miami Northwestern Senior High School, was described by his family as devoted, loving football and video games, and dreaming of a career in finance. His family had held protests outside the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office demanding accountability, which led to charges being filed against Malik more than a month after the killing.
