American rapper Tekashi 6ix9ine, born Daniel Hernandez, has stirred fresh debate online after sharing his first experience tasting Nigerian food.
His comments about some of the country’s most popular meals triggered widespread reactions from Nigerians, many of whom expressed displeasure over his assessment.
The video, which began circulating online around December 20, 2025, showed the rapper seated in front of several Nigerian dishes.
Arranged on the table were plates of jollof rice, fufu and egusi soup, alongside assorted proteins such as chicken, beef and fish.
A Nigerian host was present to guide him through the tasting process.
As Tekashi 6ix9ine dipped the fufu into the soup and took his first bite, he appeared visibly uncomfortable.
At one point, he exclaimed, “Oh sh!t,” while the host laughed in response.
As the tasting continued, the rapper shook his head repeatedly and licked his fingers, actions that suggested mixed reactions to the meal.
However, when asked at the end of the session to give his overall opinion on the food, he delivered a blunt verdict.
“Trash… sh!t trash.”
The clip quickly gained traction on platforms such as YouTube and X, formerly known as Twitter.
Many Nigerians reacted strongly, noting that jollof rice and fufu are cultural staples across the country.
While some viewers described his remarks as disrespectful, others focused on what they considered his exaggerated expressions.
The incident also added to an ongoing trend of foreign content creators posting first-time African food tastings that often spark intense public debate.
This is not the first time Tekashi 6ix9ine has shared similar content online. In recent months, he has appeared in other food challenge videos, including clips where he sampled Indian street food and offered similarly critical reviews.
Tekashi 6ix9ine initially gained global recognition in 2017 with hit tracks such as Gummo. However, legal issues later altered the trajectory of his career. Since his release from prison in 2020, the rapper has continued to attract attention and controversy, frequently remaining a subject of discussion on social media.
