A 23-year-old man who was critically injured in a shooting in Ala Moana, Hawaii, early Sunday morning has died, prompting authorities to upgrade the case to a murder investigation.
According to the Honolulu Police Department, the shooting occurred at approximately 4:53 a.m. near the intersection of Keeaumoku Street and Kapiolani Boulevard.
Responding crews from Honolulu Emergency Medical Services treated the victim for an apparent gunshot wound before transporting him to a hospital in critical condition.
Police later confirmed that the victim succumbed to his injuries at around 7 p.m. Sunday.
Following the man’s death, investigators reclassified the case from attempted murder in the second degree to murder in the second degree.
Authorities have not made any arrests in connection with the shooting.
HPD also stated that the incident is not believed to be connected to a separate shooting reported on Hopaka Street.
