A 26-year-old man who was naturalized as a United States citizen under the Biden administration in 2022 has been charged with the brutal murder of a Department of Homeland Security employee, authorities announced on Wednesday.

Olaolukitan Adon Abel, born in the United Kingdom, allegedly shot and stabbed Lauren Bullis, a DHS Office of Inspector General employee, while she was walking her dog on April 13, according to a DHS statement.

Abel has a prior criminal record that includes convictions for sexual battery, battery against a police officer, obstruction, assault with a deadly weapon, and vandalism. He has also been arrested for the murder of an unidentified woman whom he reportedly shot outside a Checkers restaurant, before randomly shooting a homeless man multiple times outside a Kroger grocery store in Brookhaven, Georgia.

“On Monday, a DHS employee, Lauren Bullis, was brutally shot and stabbed to death by Olaolukitan Adon Abel, a 26-year-old, born in the United Kingdom, who was naturalized by the Biden Administration in 2022,” said DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin.

“These acts of pure evil have devastated our Department and my prayers are with the families of the victims.”

Bullis served as an auditor in the Office of Audits and as a team leader in the Office of Innovation. “She brought warmth, kindness, and a genuine sense of care to her colleagues each day,” the DHS statement said.

Since President Donald Trump took office, US Citizenship and Immigration Services has implemented measures to ensure individuals with criminal histories do not attain citizenship. In December 2025, USCIS announced the creation of a new vetting center to enhance screening of immigration applications, focusing on identifying terrorists, criminal aliens, and other threats to public safety.

The agency also restored the practice of conducting neighbourhood investigations of potential new citizens to verify their residency, moral character, and loyalty to the US Constitution.
