The United States House of Representatives has supported President Donald Trump’s claim that the world has largely ignored alleged cases of Christian persecution in Nigeria.

The US House Committee on Foreign Affairs highlighted that innocent Nigerian Christians have been victims of violent attacks for too long.

In a statement responding to a viral livestream showing a terrorist attack on the CAC Church in Eruku, Kwara State, the committee stressed that the plight of Christians in Nigeria must not be overlooked.

The committee wrote on X, “President Trump is right: For far too long, innocent 🇳🇬Nigerian Christians have been slaughtered while the world looks away. In fact, just this week, terrorists attacked a church, killing and kidnapping innocent Christians. This is the reality they face in the region.”

The House Committee also noted ongoing efforts by the US Mission to the United Nations, as well as public advocacy by figures including American singer and rapper Nicki Minaj. It announced that a hearing will be held to examine the continuing attacks.

“These gruesome atrocities must not go unheard. The House Foreign Affairs Committee is holding a hearing tomorrow to further bring light to the violent killings,” the committee added.
