The United States ambassador to the United Nations, Mike Waltz, has invited American rapper Nicki Minaj for a discussion on the protection of persecuted Christians in Nigeria.
The invitation followed Minaj’s social media post condemning the alleged persecution of Christians in the country.
This comes after U.S. President Donald Trump, on October 31, declared Nigeria a “country of particular concern” over what he described as ongoing genocide against Christians. Trump also ordered the Department of War to prepare for “possible action” against Islamist groups operating in Nigeria.
Reacting to Trump’s declaration, Nicki Minaj, a 12-time Grammy-nominated artist, expressed her gratitude for religious freedom in the United States while urging global awareness of the attacks on Christians.
She wrote on X, “Reading this made me feel a deep sense of gratitude. We live in a country where we can freely worship God. No group should ever be persecuted for practicing their religion. We don’t have to share the same beliefs in order for us to respect each other. Numerous countries all around the world are being affected by this horror, and it’s dangerous to pretend we don’t notice. Thank you to the President and his team for taking this seriously. God bless every persecuted Christian. Let’s remember to lift them up in prayer.”
In response, Waltz praised the rapper for speaking up and invited her for a deeper conversation about U.S. efforts to protect Christian communities worldwide.
“I would love to speak with you in more depth about what our administration is doing to protect Christians’ freedoms all over the world. We can’t allow this to continue. Every sister and brother of Christ must band together and say, ‘Enough!’” Waltz said.
Trump’s designation of Nigeria as a “country of particular concern” has stirred global reactions, with both local and international groups urging the Nigerian government to intensify efforts to end religious violence.
