United States President’s special envoy to the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, has indicated that Washington expects Iran to engage in discussions “this week” as efforts intensify to bring an end to the month-long conflict in the region.
Speaking at an economic forum in Miami on Friday, Witkoff said, “We believe there will be meetings this week, and we certainly hope so,” according to the French Press Agency (AFP), when asked about the prospect of negotiations with Tehran.
He further disclosed that the United States is waiting for Iran’s reply to a proposed framework aimed at resolving the crisis.
“We have a 15-point plan on the table, and we expect the Iranians to respond, and it could resolve everything,” he said.
Despite Tehran’s continued denial of any direct negotiations with Washington, reports from several Iran-aligned websites suggest that Iranian officials have delivered a “formal” response to the U.S. proposal through a Pakistani intermediary.
